napalese tomato soup

naomi Jan 3, 2005 04:29 PM

I went to a Napalese restaurant, and had an amazing tomato/coconut soup. Anyone have any recipes? It was just a smooth soup, no visible spices or anything (except some cilantro for garnish - yuck).

I'm not sure it is specifically Nepalese, from Nepal. If you google "tomato coconut soup" in quotes, you'll pull up a lot...

I would second the doubt that tomato coconut soup is originally Nepali. I lived in a village outside Kathmandu for six months and never saw any coconuts either for sale in markets or on a menu. Some Nepali cuisine, especially in the Kathmandu area and near the Indian border, is influenced by the various Indian styles of cooking--this sounds kind of like a southern Indian preparation.
