Sugar Cookie Icing Recipe?

I need a really tasty sugar cookie icing recipe. I've done the powdered sugar, vanilla, milk thing before, but somehow I am missing the mark. I've done some research and see that some recipes call for cream cheese (along with these other ingredients), others call for butter, and some use egg whites (to help create a dry, finished icing?) Any suggestions
are appreciated. I always marvel at the great icing on Gianna's cookies (if you have not eaten one of these sugar cookies they are worth every dollar!), but want to make my own. Thanks!
I just made a sugar cookie variation (with a lot of nutmeg) and the icing recipe was great. It had 6 T butter, 2 T heavy cream, 2 t rum, 1 t vanilla, and 2 c. powdered sugar. All the ingredients were creamed together to make a fluffy icing, that you spread on the cookies while they're still warm from the oven. The icing melts and hardens as it cools.
I have something phenomenol for you...add corn syrup...it does the trick. My recipe calls for 1 cup powdered sugar and 2tsp milk, 2tsp corn syrup, and what ever food color you want...to get a nice consistency you willl need about 3 of each.
the icing stays shiny and colorful and tries hard but not rock hard so that you can stack them.
