H&H Bagels

I have the opportunity to buy H&H bagels in a town where we cannot get any good kosher bagels. I have the opportunity to buy H&H bagels for $14/dozen.

Are the H&H bagels any good?

    1. Yes, they are. Very fluffy.

        1. No. NO. ***NO***

They're like cake. Sickeningly sweet cake. They have nothing whatever to do with real bagels.

Huh? which H&H bagels have you had and where? I've never heard the word sweet applied to them...

Agreed, Debbie. I have no idea what KRS is talking about.

Montreal bagels are sweet - they're a different animal altogether from larger NY bagels. They too are oh-so-good hot out of the brick oven in the store...

I like them. All bagels have a bit of sugar in them and H&H might have a touch more than some other places (Columbia Hot, for instance) but they're tasty, especially if bought warm.

I used to love the bagels at the Bagelry (a chain) but I don't think they were kosher, and it's moot because they've all closed, I believe.

What I can't get over about H&H is how much they cost at the store. Unbelievable price increase over the years.

                      • They are fabulous--when fresh out of the oven.
But even here in NY, there are the bagels straight from the store(s)(there are 3 here, I think, but only 2 are really the "original") and the "H&H bagels" that every other store seems to carry. I don't find that they are of the same quality. Still NYC bagels, just not the ridiculously good (and expensive 95c each) ones from the original store.
If you are in a town that does not have good bagels-try them

                          1. On Long Island (New York), we have a very good bagel chain called Bagel Boss. They ship all over the US. I believe that most, if not all of the Bagel Boss stores are Kosher.

H & H bagels are overrated. To pay 14 dollars for 13 bagels? Ridiculous. But then there are no alternatives for you, in which case I would vote: buy them. They are good, although not as amazing as their unwarranted fame would indicate. I can think of two places in Flatbush which beat H&H hands down (and only cost 65 cents each, not the dollar that H&H charges).
