Why would you want to? Even Israelis don't drink Israeli beer any more; my impression from my latest few trips is the most popular beer in Israel seems to be Carlsberg.

If the 2nd Av deli is kosher enough for you, why not go there? As of last week, there's a little placard on every table informing you that they serve an Israeli beer, brand name of "Layla." They might serve some other Israeli brews too. And even if the beer turns out to be miserable, the rest of your meal won't.

Its been quite some time, but if all sources in the suburban region fail head to the BrickSkeller (SP?) in the Dupont Circle. While your significant other is drinking the Blue and White stuff, you can partake in the better offerings.

As suggested above, Carlsberg is quite popular in Israel. It is bottled in the Holy Land and that might be the easiest find. And it takses better than Goldstar or Macabee ever did.

Carlsburg bottles a product for the US in Israel called LAYLA. Its an exceptional amber colored ale. If you like Carlsburg, try the Layla, its even better in my opinion.

In the Baltimore area, I suggest trying Kosher Bite on Reisterstown Rd., which has a liquor selection, as well as a liquor place up the street called Village Wine, if memory serves. It is in the same shopping center as Pern's and the Royal restaurant. In the Washington area, try Kosher Mart on Boiling Brook Pkwy. in Rockville, in the former Katz's location.

Kosher Mart on Boiling Brook Parkway carries Layla Israeli beer. Its brewed at the Israeli Beer Brewery in Ashkelon Israel by the makers of Carlsburg, under OK supervision. i guarantee you won't be dissappointed!
