I'll be going to S. Florida after the weekend. I'd like to know of good places to eat reasonably. I'm not looking for the fanciest places, and also not looking for the pizza or felafel/schwarma places. I prefer good food for good value. Any all-you-can-eat places by any chance? This would be Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area mainly, though could go up to Boca Raton.

The fancy, pricy places have their time and place, but it isn't what I'm looking for this time. Thanks.

Well, thewre Saras on 123 st, is a pizza, felafal and tons of other kinds of food place. Try the pareve shmapaburger.

if you're willing to go to Boca, don't miss Eilat Cafe, it's a fish/dairy restuarant that's worth the trip

Thank you to all for your suggestions. I ended up going to:

1. Sara's in Hollywood
    3944 N 46th Ave
    Hollywood FL 33021
    (954)986-1770

The chili here was excellent, pizza was pretty good but nothing exceptional, and the shmapaburger suggested here (pareve) was quite good.

2. I followed the suggestion here and went to Eilat Cafe in Boca Raton.

      Eilat Cafe
      6853 SW 18th St
      Boca Raton Fl 33433
      (561)368-9550
      http://www.eilatcafe.com

The lasagna here was excellent as well as the mahi-mahi. Service was quite good, and the view of the water was nice. This restaurant is good value for the money spent-all entrees are under $20, even for dinner. While not the best kosher restaurant I've ever been to (as suggested here by one person), it was quite nice and worth the drive. Nice view of the water, though it was sweltering as usual and we were unable to eat outside.

While in Boca, a visit to the Kosher Marketplace is a good idea. This is a nicely done kosher market, with a great selection of wines. I found the Yarden Katzrin here ($91.99-too rich for me) as well as a couple of the single-orchard Yarden wines (I think one was $36 and the other $40) that are difficult to find. The market as a whole should be copied by markets in other cities-maybe the level of service to consumers would go up elsewhere, as is sorely needed.

3. The last place I went to was Thai Taste in Sunrise. I had been a couple of times a few years ago to the branch in Miami (not sure whether there is any current connection between the restaurants) at 2176 NE 123rd St, Miami FL 33181 (305)892-1118 and it was excellent, as in superb, so decided to try this place:

Thai Taste
2340 N University Dr-northeast corner of Sunset Strip and University Dr
Sunrise FL 33322
(954)748-7782

They have an all-you-can-eat here for lunch 11:30-3:00 from Monday-Thursday for $9.95 (eat-in only), which seemed quite good-but we arrived at 3:30, and the restaurant is supposed to be closed between 3 and 4 p.m. Thankfully, they were very gracious, and we were able to enter and have an excellent meal. It's not like I have an abundance of kosher Thai places to compare this one to (other than the one in Miami), but I rated it highly. It was nice to have a nice Thai waitress for authenticity's sake, and we were able to decipher the menu with her despite her limited English. The curry chicken and the soup were excellent. Next time I'll try to make the lunch buffet. They also have an early bird special Sun-Thurs 4-6 p.m. (seated by 6 p.m.) for $11.95 consisting of soup or salad, hot tea, choice of entree with jasmine rice, spring roll and dessert.

One place I did not get to but might next visit is the Sunday champagne brunch buffet at Prime Grill from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from October 15th to April 15th. Not sure of price.
   Prime Grill
   3599 NE 207th St-located in the Waterways
   Aventura FL
   reservations: (305)692-9392

A reminder to all that the restaurant business often changes, and it is necessary to make sure beforehand that a place is still open, and that they have an acceptable hechsher. On this visit, one restaurant I went to previously had changed names and menus (while staying a kosher restaurant-I supposed it changed owners) while there were two advertisements in the local Jewish press about two places which were no longer under supervision.

Thanks again to all!
