The brand name version was kosher when I was a kid, but after they lost their hashgacha, I found nothing for a long while. Then, a few years ago, I found a great approximation of them carried by Oh Nuts! in Flatbush. But when I went back to the store recently, they had been replaced by a far inferior Israeli version that was far too sweet and had the wrong consistency.
