decor: on the plus side, there is definitely room to breathe. lots of legroom and space. but it is not a cozy or romantic place at all, no real sense of style or mood. and they have an unsettling hot pink electric mural that gave my friend (and my food) a radioactive glow.

food: the watermelon salad is fine, but could easily be at a pot luck shabbos picnic. the veal was very good. the chocolate ganache tasted like my grandmother put her dark chocolate in the freezer. i left hungry.

overall, i'd say you could skip it, but i have a feeling you will all go just to try it out.

The Jewish Week story made the front page, but it was more about the proprieter (I forget his name), who is young (<30) and brash and has had great success with Prime Grill in NYC and Miami, and is looking to expand into other markets (Prime Grill is taking over the former Stacks in DC and may be opening elsewhere too) and other types of glatt restaurants (i.e., Solo). The article was very favorable about the owner and let him make his pitch (cutting-edge cuisine, decor and service; so good you can't tell it's kosher, etc.), but it never reviewed the restaurant itself (nor does the JW review restaurants generally). Solo now advertises in the JW's restaurant listings, as did Prime Grill all along.

I ate there yesterday. I thought the food was good but not amazing enough to justify the price. The service was pleasant.

I had the tuna carpaccio and the duck which was very good. My son had the Duet of filet and rib and loved the filet but said the rib was jsut ok. The chocolate dome was ok, nothing special. The appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert--no drinks, none of the extras they offered (inclduing the trio of mediterranean oils for $8)--ran over $100.

I have a friend who has been to every glatt kosher restaraunt in the city. Prime Grill has pretty good food but it's not a real steak house for one they serve sushi. They are certainly overpriced and for the money there are better stake houses such a s La Mare. If you are looking for a top notch restaraunt that has nice ambiance try Domani.

"Prime Grill has pretty good food but it's not a real steak house for one they serve sushi."

What does that mean? A steak house can't serve sushi? Lots of steak houses serve fish dishes.

Le Marais doesn't compare to Prime Grill, imo, in terms of quality. You can argue about service or price, but the meat at Prime Grill is better in my experience.
