I'm planning on throwing a young adults kosher wine tasting in the Minneapolis area. Read: need high-quality kosher wines from a variety of countries that guests may not have yet heard of. Anybody have suggestions for some real hidden gems -- that is, wine on the dry side that isn't labeled Herzog or Gamla?

Thanks!

Not sure you'll be able to find these in your neck of the woods but this shop has an extensive list of koshers wines from around the globe...it should be a good starting point in figuring out which wines you might want to seek out for your party. Have a ball!

Kedem, Royal Wine Corp. (which might be a subsidiary of Kedem) and Abarbanel import a range of excellent kosher European wines - these are often special bottlings from non-kosher wineries. My favorite examples:

Chateau Grand Noyer Lalande De Pomerol (Royal)
Rothchild Haut-Medoc (I think Royal or Kedem)
Chateau Labegorce Margaux (Royal)

Those are French and often more expensive (though in my opinion, head and shoulders above the rest).

Less expensive wines can be had from Australia via Teal Lake, Italy by Bartenura, and there are some Chilean wines as well, but I can't recall the name they are bottled under.

I would suggest you head over to Surdyks in Northeast Minneapolis. My family has luck with them, they are very knowledgeable. Also check out the Torah Academy or the Chabad school gift shops. They have some wines you don't normally get at places like MGM, they have a more New York kosher selection. The best kosher wine store is called Wine on the 9, they are in New Jersey and have a magnificent wine selection. I am told that they ship, though I usually just shlep it on the plane when I head to my parents in minneapolis

HAGAFEN!!! Award winning (in the non-kosher market), small vineyard in Napa. Delicious. Go for a visit when you're there.
