      <content>Tisha B'Av, the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av, is a sort of collective day of mourning that commemorates a number of unhappy events throughout Jewish history. It is a fast day, so observant Jews neither eat nor drink from sunset Saturday until after sunset Sunday.</content>

      <content>Tisha B'Av may commemorate more than one event, but its origin, to my knowledge, is as a day of mourning for the destruction of the 2nd Holy Temple in Jerusalem.</content>

      <content>Actually, according to Jewish tradition the the destruction of BOTH temples along with a few other things (e.g. the Jews being sentenced to 40 yrs in the desert) all occured on Tisha B'Av.</content>
