There's another one on Bayard (between Mott & Elizabeth) that was there long before the Mosco St. place but which I was happy to give up. Much harder to find things, the husband of the owner-couple can be a little annoying at times (though always friendly.) The shelf stable curry pastes are literally all over Chinatown in almost every grocery/dry goods store. In addition to the other Thai grocery, in the immediate area is an Indonesian grocery on Elizabeth that has them, as does the Chinese place down a few steps near Canal, and of course the much larger Kam Man a little east of Elizabeth on Canal.
Unfortunately, though, the Mosco St. store had things you couldn'd find elsewhere at least in Manhattan's Chinatown. Damn! I hope they just moved somewhere else...
Assuming you mean NYC, Bangkok Market is still on Mosco Street. I shopped there about two weeks ago, and called about 1 minute ago after reading your post. "Of course we are still open... oh no, tell people! That is not a nice rumor!," she said.
Tubs and tins of curry paste are also available in the big groceries like Dynasty and Kam Man; the Thai/Indonesian place right next to the fish market on Mulberry just north of Bayard; and the Thai/Indonesian place on Bayard between Mulberry and Mott.
also around elmhurst area, the part of queens where the thai people live, near the thai temple, there is a thai little cute grocery store that probably has fresh made thai curry paste, not from a can.
and i think some of the thai restaurants in queens sell it at their restauratn in a refrigerator case.
Thai store on Mosco street in NYC's Chinatown, IS still there and open for business as of January 2009. Check the google map for directions, it can be very difficult to find if you don't know the area.
AAAAARGH!

Ditto! I didn't want to scare her by telling her about the rumor, but it's obviously not true.
Oh, and thanks for implicitly correcting my post - I always forget which order the street names are in and meant Mulberry, not Elizabeth!
