many of the grocery stores in Park SLope carry them (what a change in our groceries there has been...)
just saw them at the Associated on Fifth at Union (dried whole)
and pretty sure they are at the Key Food on Fifth at Baltic

the spice vendor in the grocery court at Grand Central has really high quality chiles, pasilla included -- closest to Lex and 43/44th St

I did take a look through the key food on 5th and didn't see it, but I could have missed it (certainly a pretty awesome grocer, however). I will try the other places you mentioned. Some of my research has led me to believe that they are typically found dried whole. Thanks for the info!

FWIW- you may also see them labeled as Chile Negro, but they are the same thing. The only time I have gotten the powder has been through mail order, though now I just make my own from the pods.

I think the bodega on the east side of Fifth Ave across from 200 Fifth sportsbar (close to Union) also has pasillas...if the Associated sold out or something, this place is right there across the street and down a block.
