I received a foil bag of Fortnum & Mason formosa oolong tea about 8 years ago. When a friend visited London she brought me back a tin of it but it did not have the same oomph. It lacked the smokiness & depth of flavor of the foil package. Does anyone have a source(s) for really intensely flavored oolong teas in NYC or online? BTW, Fortnum & Mason does not export formosa oolong to the USA.

I would try checking out the Ten Ren shop on Mott St. in Chinatown. Otherwise, I have ordered teas online from Serendipitea and have always enjoyed their products.

The best source of Oolong tea that I know is here in San Francisco. Imperial Tea Court also has a wonderful website, though, and you can order their teas online.

Here's a link to their Oolong selections. There's no "Formosa" listed but there are a number of teas from Taiwan.

I love Formosa (Taiwainese Oolong). My fave for years has been "RoyalOolong" tea imported by Summit Importers of NJ. They package it in a greenish golden tin w/Chinese Mountainish landscape picture on it. I have seen the same Tin w/a different importers name (Helmwing) on it but am not sure if it is the same. A good source is Golden City Supermarket @ 46-31 Kissena Blvd in Flushing (the center of the known universe) or Po Wing Hong Grocery Sotre @ 49 Elizabeth St. This tea has a great earthy flavor and aroma, mmmm.

another great source of delicious formosa oolong online is inpursuitoftea.com. not only does In Pursuit of Tea bring us great-tasting teas from asia, they do so in a very socially responsible way that helps to preserve tea gardens and high quality teas from increasing industrialization. definitely check them out.
