Where can I get them? I loved the Cherry and Cola flavors in my youth, but I can't seem to find them. There are tantalizing clues on the net, but all seem to lead to dead ends. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks!

I just saw a piece about this on "Unwrapped" on Food Network. It was discontinued again, as The Rogue mentioned. They re-introduced them a few years ago but they weren't successful. One company bought the remainder of the stock and is selling it, but I don't know the name of the company.

There was a similar candy in the 70's or 80's. I think it was called "Pop Rocks" and it was a hard sucking candy with sodium bicarbonate inside so it would start fizzing in your mouth after a while.

"Pop Rocks were invented in 1956 by General Foods research scientist William A. Mitchell and introduced to the general public in 1975. Small amounts of carbonation are released causing a mild "exploding" sensation and "sizzling" noise"

Fizzies are not like pop rocks. Pop rocks are a candy, still being sold, that is large powder granules that actually pop and explode in your mouth. Fizzies are a flavored alka seltzer type wafer you put in water to make instant soda.

I should have somehow said, "similar in novelty appeal because of the fizzing."

I found fizzies available for sale at Archie Mcphee:

"Fizzies candy is back from the '70s, and tailored to '90s tastes; it's fat-free, sugar-free and enriched with vitamin C. Plus it's fun - drop a Fizzies tablet into 6-8 ounces of cold water and it fizzes like crazy, then dissolves into a brightly colored, syrupy, flat soda. The package suggests you try it in milk, which doesn't sound like such a good idea to us, but you can do whatever you want. You get 4 different flavors in 8 packages with 6 tablets in each"

"Self Esteem designers will apply authentic, vintage artwork including ad images, logos, product graphics, and characters to a basic, short sleeve, fitted tee body."

"Fizzies: Made in grape, cherry, orange, punch, berry, lemon-lime, and root beer flavors, Fizzies were a popular drink tablet that fizzed when placed in water. An instant soda pop! In the 50’s and 60’s eight tablets cost only 19 cents! Both the packaging and advertising images created for Fizzies will create an explosion on Junior apparel similar to the excitement created when the Fizzies tablet first hit water."
