chihuahua cheese

Any place to find this in NYC? Preferably a grocery store. Chicago ex-pats will know what I'm talking about...

    1. Its funny that you inquire about this cheese...I was just at the store the other day and thought to myself how funny of a name for cheese...but anyway..I am not sure if NY is host to the Meijer chain of groceries but they carry chihuahua cheese in the refrigerator section for cheese in the fresh fruits and veggy aisle. Sorry, if this doesnt help but thought I would give it a try!

      Happy Eatings Everyone!

        1. I've bought chihuahua cheese at Kitchen/Market on 8th avenue and 22nd. They have lots of rather unusual mexican speciality stuff and arguably the best burritos in the city (which is not saying much, but I do like them). I'm not sure what Chicago has to do with chihuahua cheese, which is from Mexico (just like the yippy dogs).

Chicago ex-pat here too. Chicago's relationship to this post is that you can find it in any and every grocery store in Chicago. It's almost as common (and commonly used) as Mozz and Monterey Jack. Many of the Mexicans in Chicago come from the Chihuahua region.

              • Both Fairways carry it - that is so funny, because I'm a Chicago ex-pat, and I didn't realize lovely Chihuahua cheese was a Chicago speciality! I just figured they had it everywhere! Agreed on Kitchen Market, however, they are mucho expensive. I bought a wide variety of chiles there for mole two weeks ago, and later found them for 1/3 the price at the uptown Fairway (albeit less attractively packaged).

It's the same for us Milwaukee ex-pats living in Boston! :( It seemed like every grocery store in Milwaukee carried V&V Supremo Chihuahua cheese, but I CANNOT find it out here...at least not in the Boston area! I've called several Spanish/Mexican grocery stores all over MA with no luck, AND few people (to my surprise) have even heard of it! It's impossible to make a decent quesadilla without it!
