Why can I not find hash browns in NYC? Does anyone know of a good place? I'm not talking the home fries that every diner worth it's salt can make. (Not a big fan of onions and peppers in my potatoes). I'm talking the shredded potatoes fried in clumps on a grill, sort of like potato pancakes but with the potato pieces more intact.

I love the hash browns at Liberty Deli on 49th street b/w Madison and 5th. The place is a typical deli but everything is tasty and very cheap.

So I know this won't be a popular response, but if those are the kind of hashbrowns you're looking for, just go to IHOP. It might not be gourmet, but its good in that guilty pleasure sort of way.

I hate home fries. They are usually partially raw, cold and tasteless. Who needs three whole potatoes for breakfast anyway? I wish breakfast/brunch restaurants would understand that hash browns can be "gourmet" and that many people (I think) prefer their light, fried taste/texture.
