South African food products in NYC

Rob Lieberthal Dec 27, 2002 02:44 PM

I am looking for Chipniks, Appletizer, Joko Tea, Mrs. Ball's chutney and other South African food products in NYC (or the Metro area) at a store (i.e. not a web or catalog based "importer"). I found the chutney once at Fairway, but I have been unsuccessful in finding any of the other items I mentioned. Help is greatly appreciated by me, though perhaps not by my cardiologist!

    Hi Rob
    Aangename kennis!!
Just read your message on the SA website---pity you don't live in Toronto Canada, ===we have ALL the products you mentioned.
One word of warning though. Should you find what you need , Please CHECK THE EXPIRY DATE/S.
I got caught on Koo Guavas. They were so revolting!!
Hope you find what you need.

I have never bought products from any of the suppliers on this list, but the website I'm providing a link for lists a number of suppliers of African foodstuffs.

I don't know the answer to your query, but try calling the owner, Mark, at Madiba's in Brooklyn 718-855-9190. It is NYC's only S. African restaurant and the owner is S. African, very friendly and might know sources in the area.
