Well, everyone on this board was so helpful regarding the mojito recommendations I thought I'd continue soliciting advice in the same vein --

Does anyone know of a place in NY (Manhattan or boroughs) that serves ti punch, which is an indidious little rum concoction that I got hooked on in Paris? Thanks in advance.

It is -- do you know any place that serves these? (although the recipe is simple, it's been my experience that if one has to explain to the bartender how it's made it stands a chance of not turning out so well).

TiPunch is derived from the French Caribbean where the cocktail, a mix of white rum, lime and sugar syrup, is drunk before and after dinner. The problem with finding a good TiPunch here in the States is that most bars do not carry rum from Guadeloupe or Martinique. In fact, it is very hard to find these rums anywhere in States. I would not recommend trying a TiPunch with Bacardi. The best substitute I've found in making my own TiPunch is using Haitian Babencourt white rum in the cocktail. You will not, however, find Babencourt used by any bars in the city. Good luck!

Barbancourt is a good susbtitute, and it is available at least at Chicama just north of Union Square. Their bar is better than the food anyway...

Yep, you can get it at Baraza (along with great mojitos, caipirinhas, etc.). On Ave. C around 7th or 8th Street, not sure exactly where. Great place. Enjoy!

The white rum from Martiniqueon and Guadeloupe are known as rhum agricole blanc. Though there is no rhum agricole from Guadeloupe yet sold in the US, there are a few places where you can find Martinique rhum agricole in the US. In NY, the Pegu Club and the Flatiron Lounge serve ti punches, Phil was the first bartender in NY to serve this drink made with about a third teaspoon sugar cane syrup, a small slice off the side of a lime and a measure of rhum agricole. I would also recommend 202, 75 9th Ave between 14 and 15th St. Stephan makes a great ti punch. Brandy Library and Freeman's also serve ti punches.

Although you can use raw sugar in this drink, sugar cane syrup from Martinique really makes this cocktail special. The sugar in Martinique is very different from what's generally available in the US.
