One of the most memorable meals i ever had was at a laotian restaurant in the bowels of a kickboxing stadium in bangkok. i'd love to recreate that meal without paying for the plane ticket. does anyone know of any restaurants in new york that specialize in the cuisine of laos?

No, but there's a couple of Laotian cookbooks out there...what specifically are you looking for?

great lao restaurant in providence, RI, on smith street on federal hill. called Asia Place. the laab (elsewhere spelled larp or laap -- as in thai restaurants) is an unbelievable tripe salad served "cooked or raw". raw is for the very adventuresome. if i'm in providence, i eat it every night.
