Okay, this is one of those weird things that, as an adult, I still occassionally crave. I am not sure why, but for whatever reason, I need my peanut buter cap'n crunch fix. The problem is....in NYC I CAN NEVER FIND IT!! Can any city dwellers cite a supermarket/bodega where they've seen in being sold? I live on the upper e side and I only find the original cap'n crunch and crunch berries. Never the peanut butter variety. For that matter, why is cap'n crunch the ONLY cereal (that I know of, anyway) to offer a peanut butter flavor?? Someone could make a mint on a new cereal (on me, alone!).....

I've never had an easy time finding peanut butter cap'n crunch (my favorite cereal too!!) no matter where i've lived. my roommate in college actually called the company to find out why, and they said it's only produced during certain times of the year. i unfortunately don't remember when that is, but you might want to call and find out.

That is interesting. Why would they produce a cereal only at certain times a year? Is there a ration on artificial peanut butter flavor??!! Anyway, thanks, all, for the info, and suggestions!

As for the suggestion of Reese's cereal, is that with a chocolate mix to the peanut butter, like the candy bar, or is it straight peanut butter? Because a breakfast cereal with chocolate AND peanut butter might just be TOO candy'ish for my tastes in the AM!

Since I saw this thread before going shopping today so I looked at the cereal aisle. There it was at my local (Jackson Hts., Queens) Met Food store: Pnut Butter Capt. Crunch.

Since you triggered me to look at the cereal aisle I also looked for Power Puff Girl Cereal. You think about it, that truly is a name for a breakfast cereal endorsement: Power Puff. I had bought it once a few months ago on a whim because my kids like the cartoon. I was hugely surprised when their mom let me know that they all thought the cereal was really good. Surprised since she generally is not interested in breakfast cereals and generally against most US sweets.

Anyway, there was no sign of Power Puff cereal today, but looking at all the many flavors/themes I can see that all except the big huge suburban groceries just don't have room to stock every kind. So if you shop in Manhattan, that may affect what you can find.

There's also Peanut Butter Puffins, but if you can't find the Cap'n Crunch, I recommend the Bumpers. I may even prefer the Bumpers to Cap'n Crunch because they're less irritating on the soft palate. Peanut Butter Puffins are disappointing - way too airy and they do not hold up in milk.
Bumpers and sometimes the P. Butter Puffins can be found in "health food" stores.
P.S. Don't bother with the Cocoa Bumpers. Worthless as a chocolate cereal. Much better off with Count Chocula or Cocoa Krispies or something like that.

This recipe isn't anything fancy at all, but both adults and kids love the tasty crust. A quick meal that satifies. I don't make it often cause you have to fry it and I have become more health conscious in recent years. It doesn't seem to retain the oil and is not greasy at all. My son would eat it every day if I made it. I got it off the internet a few years ago and it was titled "Planet Hollywood's Cap'n Crunch Chicken.

2 cups Captain Crunch cereal (plain)
1 1/2 cups cornflakes
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 pounds chicken breasts (cut in tender sized pieces)

Coarsly grind or crush the two cereals and set aside. Beat the egg with milk and set aside. Stir together the flour, onion and garlic powders and black pepper. Set this aside also. Dip the chicken pieces into the seasoned flour. Move around to coat well, then shake off excess. Dip into egg wash, coat well. Dip in cereal mixture, coat well. Heat oil in a large heavy skillet. Crop coated chickent tenders into the hot oil and cook till golden brown and cooked 3-5 min depending on size. Drain on paper towels and serve.
My own Note: It's easier and quicker to crush the cereal in a blender if you have one (I don't care about the coarseness- doesn't change the taste). I have varied the amount of Capn Crunch and Corn Flakes when short on one or the other. I also put the flour mixture in a paper bag and throw the chicken in to shake to coat. I tried it once with boned chicken but it wasn't the same. Stick with chicken cutlets. My husband makes a dipping sauce using some chili sauce, soy sauce, honey, duck sauce and a little crushed pepper. It will resemble a Thai dipping sauce.
Hope you like it.
