Hoft's-Burke Ave, Bronx-Egg Cream

In my enthusiastic search for Egg Creams, both soda fountain and home-recipe varieties, I recently came across a 1986 book in the library by the Sterns, "Coast to Coast Cookbook: Real American Food."
They have a page on New York Egg Creams, and particularly mention "Hoft's on Burke Avenue, in the Bronx [which] offer(s) a rainbow of syrups for flavored cokes and sodas...Hoft's also makes a classic egg cream..." I have been unable to get current information on Hoft's, but ran across an address for Hoft's Candy Kitchens on White Plains Rd. You New Yorkers, help me out here, as I left NY a while back and I'm having a wonderful time in Florida. Is Hoft's still in the business of Egg Creams or in the business of anything? Should I put it on my list for the next time we come up for a visit, or strike it off permanently? Is it Burke Ave. or White Plains Rd.?
Please note, I am not asking the Chowhounds to re-hash everything that's been written on these boards about Egg Creams, but if you do have some new tidbit-fire away!! But what about Hoft's?

Hi Ric, Having been born and raised in the Bronx, I am very familiar with Hoft's Ice Cream Parlor. I'm sorry to say that Hoft's closed about six years ago (around the same time I moved from the Bronx, I recall). The shop was located under the El on White Plains Road at Burke Ave. I have many fond memories of spending time in Hoft's with family and friends enjoying their wonderful homemade ice cream ( I always liked owner Betty Hoft's perfectly made scoops best) and hand dipped chocolates. Their egg creams, to be honest with you never really stood out to me....I guess because there were so many candy stores in the Bronx during my youth who made better egg creams, believe it or not. A good analogy would be how there were lots of exceptional old school pizzeria's (like Difara's of Brooklyn) in many Bronx neighborhoods as well. I really miss those days because sadly what used to be the norm, has now become the exception. I hope you enjoy your return visit to NY. Best of Luck.
