I just got back from Miami where I saw this on the menu at a few Cuban sandwich shops. Does anyone know the origin of this sandwich or where I can get one in Manhattan.

Thanks!

Actually, the sandwich is called Elena Ruz. Turkey, strawberry preserves and cream cheese on white. A Google search revealed that it is named after a 1930's Cuban socialite.

Thanks so much, I guess it was misspelled on one of the menus I read. Usually Google suggests alternates but obviously not this time. Have you had one? Is it tasty?

While Elena Ruiz is very popular name, getting 100s of hits in google; the name of the sandwich is is 3 or 4 to 1 in favor of Ruz:

The link you list is the only one that comes up with "Elena Ruiz" and "sandwich" as the search terms. Not that it is a big deal, but just don't want to have obfuscation slipping in. Since the name Ruiz is so very much more common it is understandable the impulse to change from Ruz. On the other hand, Ruz being relatively uncommon, it is most likely that was the person's name. Otherwise why spell it that way. Too bad all web sources the search engines fine are at best secondary or tertiary sources so we cannot see the whole enchilada.

Iron F:
I had this a while ago. Not too bad. I think I need to do another taste test. Reminiscent of cranberry sauce with your turkey. But not quite. Sweeter and creamier. But, as I said, I need to reassess this sandwich.
