Couverture Chocolate

Is there a good one-stop retail source in NYC for big (11 lb. or 6.6 lb.) blocks of Cacao Barry, Callebaut, El Rey, and Valrhona? I only know of good mail order places now.

Thanks very much.

You could try the wholesaler in Queens called Gourmand Specialty Foods (Formerly De Choix Specialty foods). I don't know if they'll sell retail, but they'll certainly have all the chocolates you're trying to find. 718/507-8080. Ask for Rick and tell him that Charles from Charles and Laurel Desserts referred you. Maybe they'll ship to you. They have a pretty comprehensive catalogue that includes not only chocolate, but ingredients and delicacies of all sorts. I suspect that they have a minimum order.

hi, Is this place still around? I looked and couldn't seem to find them. I'm looking for anywhere that sells couverture chocolate in and around New York City.

      Hey Semi-sweet --

I've found large blocks of couverture before at NY Cake and Baking Supply at 56 West 22nd. Haven't been there in awhile, so don't know which brands they stock nowadays, but you can call them at 212-675-CAKE to find out. Have fun!
