Village Bakery on 6th and Christopher--remember?

This was one of my favorite places when I was a poor NYU student. I remember Jerry was the salesperson--always added an extra slice to whatever I ordered. This was a long time ago(like late 50's). Anyone else remember this bakery--it was next to Balducci's when they were just a fruit and vegetable stand.

My wife sez I'm wrong. There was a place at Chrisopher
and Greenwich Ave called Village Bakery...not as good as
    Sutter's which isn't saying much...BB

Your wife is correct--it was Christopher and Greenwich--frankly, I thought their cakes were better than Sutters--

Fran Leibowitz tells a great story about listening to the whores (locked up in the Jefferson Market Women's Prison right across the street) and their pimps yelling at each other over her morning coffee at Village Bakery.
