som tam

I would like to know where in NYC (any borough) I can get som tam, the real thing, the green papaya salad that is actually pounded in a mortar and drips with flavor, not the tossed lightly salted variety that seems to be standard in all the Thai restaurants I've tried. This was my favorite dish when I lived in Thailand, but I've never been able to find it here. Any suggestions?

  1. Oh yeah. The best som tam in NYC is at srihpapi in queens - the best thai food i've had outside of thailand. Look it up in the yellow pages, I always forget exactly where it is and how to spell it although we go there once a week. It's around 60th and Roosevelt somewhere.
