Hi.. While I refuse to patronize chain eating establishments like Starbucks, I must admit, they make a damn-good summer slushy drink.

Does anyone else know where I can buy a decent rendition of a Frappuccino-type drink downtown (preferably in the East Village?)?

Much appreciated on a hot summer day like this one...

I don't have a suggestion for you -- I'm curious, too -- but I can't help wonder why you don't treat yourself to a Frappuccino if you like them?

We've gotten decent ones in the West Village on Bleecker but our all-time favorite is the homemade chocolate gelato (you can get coffee gelato too, I think) served in iced cappucino (caf or decaf) at Cafe la Fortuna (W. 71st between Columbus and CPW). The drink's gotten pricy ($1-$2 more than Starbucks, probably)--we now only get it for special occasions!--but my guess is you'll be very happy. Drink it outside in their garden.

Go to the Espresso Bar on Christopher between 7th Ave and Bleeker Street and order a Freddocino. The first time I had one I couldn't believe how delicious it was! I went up to the counter to ask what was in it. They use a "magic" powder, coffee, half & half and ice. There was a period where I was completely addicted. I've had to quit Cold Turkey. They have a Mochacino version too. I'm a purist so I tend to stay with plain coffee. Enjoy!

Its not downtown, but the stand in front of the big New York Public Library has frappucino type drinks that are really good. IMHO, they're even better than frappucinnos because they aren't quite as sweet.
