ramen experience
I recently started working in the E Village area and was really looking forward to trying the ramen at Rai Rai Ken (214 E. 10th St), given the lack of eateries that serve ramen around the city. I went there yesterday, enjoyed the miso ramen (which was good, not as good as the ones I've had in L.A. but enjoyable enough) and about 5 minutes later I got a stomach ache. The stomach ache (which did not feel like heartburn or any other stomach ache I've had before) continued through the evening and only when I took some Mylanta did it subside a bit. Luckily, I happened to have a doctor's appt that day and asked the doctor about it and he said it could've been the preservatives found in ramen. I'm not sure if I'm convinced since the ramen noodles tasted fresh and I don't think it was the meat or the soup since the meat was thoroughly cooked and I didn't have any of the typical symptoms of food poisoning afterwards (nausea). I was just wondering though--has anyone else ever had this experience?













I had no problem after eating at Rai Rai Ken. Most food problems tend to occur 10-14 hours after eating. Followup with your MD if the pain continues.

I recently had a similar experience, but not at Rai Rai Ken. I had soba noodles and vegetables in miso broth and was striken with a stomach ache and terrible nausea shortly after I finished the soup. Scared me off - haven't had it since...

Excellent ?. I'd also ask if you have gallbladder problems. That can seem as though it's food poisoning very quickly indeed.

I second that possible explanation - gallbladder disease is espec common in women, and an attack often occurs following an evening meal. Sufferers may also become intolerant of foods they previously could eat, like onions or spicy food. Fortunately, removal of the gallbladder is a cure.
