east village pasta?

  • l

Can someone tell me the best place nr. the UA 13th st theatre?

Pasta/pizza would be best choice since my friends are vegetarians.

  1. Try Cafe Viva on 2nd Ave at 11th St. Really nice veggie pizza.

Cafe Viva is a good choice, but if you'd like more atmosphere try Pangea (Italian/Mediterranean) across the street. Good pastas and outstanding soups of the day that have been veg. every time I've been there. They also have veggie meatballs, which are basically felafel made with lentils instead of chickpeas, as well as a good tomato-walnut dip that's kind of a variation on mohamarrah. There are other veg. apps and salads as well, and the atmosphere is really pleasant. It's also very reasonably priced, especially if you're getting pasta or making a meal out of starters.

    2. There's an organic vegetarian place on 12th Street between Broadway & University Place that's really good, creative, and they have pasta there. Their exact name escapes me (but it's not Angelica's) and it was an upscale coffee lounge before.

Is that perhaps OtherFoods? I've never been, but it's on my list to try. What's good there?

Yes, that's it! They have good soups, fresh-squeezed juices, salads, chicken, pasta, etc. I had a special there of wild salmon. The specials always seem interesting/creative from what I see on other tables. It seems to me this place is kind of overlooked because of its location between University Place & Broadway as compared to, say, Angelica's which IMO has more of a limited menu yet people wait out on the street for a table.

      2. no doubt about it, PATSY's, on University and 10th, or so.
Not the greatest atmosphere but if youve never had it, its wonderful.
