Any suggestions for restaurants, either in Manhattan or Queens? We have eaten twice recently at the GSI in midtown, and are less impressed than many of the posters on these boards, so we would appreciate other recommendations - especially for those that excel at banquests.

We went to a wonderful Chinese banquet on Christmas for a 90th birthday party. It was:

    Ping's
8302 Queens Boulevard, Elmhurst, NY 11373
    (718) 396-1238 near the N/R train (not sure the stop - you can call)

The meal featured great "cold cuts" - sliced meats done in tea/five spice and surprisingly tender cuts of octopus and abalone; seafood/rice casserole with excellent, nicely cooked seafood; crispy shrimp with fried "custard" balls (interesting, since I don't think I've ever had anything with milk or cream at a banquet like this before).

At any rate, my Chinese friends have been going there for years and love the place.
