I am desperately looking for some web sites that sell and delivers top quality ice cream anywhere in the US. Is anybody aware of any good ones?

    Lapperts from Hawaii. Awesome.

      Yes, but what's the point (for $63 shipping for $21 worth of ice cream) if they don't even offer their apple pie ice cream to ship?

        Yes, but if you're crazy enough to order ice cream through the mail in the first place, paying 63 bucks to ship a heavy cooler filled with dry ice for six pints of ice cream all the way from Hawaii should not be an issue to you.

          My point was, I wouldn't do it from Lappert's if I couldn't buy the apple pie flavor.

            Hmm. I'll take your word for it. I've never had a decent applie flavored ice cream before.

            Rachel and I had lots of Lapperts during our honeymoon 5 years ago... really good stuff.

            I had some at the San Jose international airport recently, so it must be a lot more common in California.

              Never having been to Hawaii, I've only had Lappert's in California. The apple pie flavor succeeds because it is cinnamon-flavored ice cream with bits/chunks of apple pie in it; in other words, it's not apple-flavored ice cream. I've done it at home, too.

      Michael--

      Egg Farm Dairy's ice cream is considered by many to be the best around (I don't think I've ever had better), they're run by good people (who I've heard could actually use some business), and they've made a biz goal of shipping ice cream as cheaply as possible via www.cybericecream.com. It's $5/pint (six pint minimum), and they ship with dry ice for from $25 (NYC Metro) to $40 (West Coast
      )
      They're experimenting right now with some very interesting ice creams made with wine (Muscat , Vin Santo, or Sauternes), for $7.50/pint. Not froufrou, don't worry...everything from these guys actually tastes great.

      Order some of their unbelievable cheese while you're at it. It's so good that they do a lot of export trade to Europe (like coals to Newcastle)

        woops...should have mentioned that their server is down right this sec (probably up again by Monday, I'd guess). You can read the site via google's cache at http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:...

          Is this ice cream sold at any retail outlets in NYC that anyone knows of? In the alternative, are there any Manhattan based chowhounders interested in splitting an order? There's no way my freezer or my hips can deal with a six-pint minimum!

            Elaine,

            I'd like to know if it's sold in NYC, too, but if it's not, I'd definitely consider splitting an order with you. I've been longing for great cassis sorbet since I got back from Paris in April!
