So this year I will have to live vicariously through the board. What's new and good this year? I hope someone will stop by Crixa and see what they have for the holidays.

For this year the visions of sugar plums that will have to remain dancing in my head include:

Linguiria's pannetone ... they should be baking it soon and when it sells out it sells out.

The Cheeseboards rich fruitcake which gives fruit cake a good name ... soaked with three liquors chock full of nuts and fruit you want to eak like apricots.

Little City's special Christmas sausage.

Let's not leave any holidays out where food is involved like Kwanza and Chanuka.

What are your favorite holiday favorites and finds?

Is Liguria Bakery, 1700 Stockton & Filbert, in North Beach where people were getting the pannetone last year? Because I went there Thurs Dec 4th and the heavy-set Italian lady behind the counter didn't seem to have an pannetone or mention when they would sell any in the future. I did buy some good pizza focaccia from her for $3 a huge slab.

In fact, she told me to try Danilo, 516 Green St, near Grant. 415-989-1806. I didn't go, but wonder if they are any good and if Liguria does sell them at all and when?

Yes Arlene, there is a pannetone from Liguria. Looking at last year's post, it appeared on December 11th.

A warning here, it is not an elaborate pannetone. More of a simple holiday bread. On the good side it is fresh and inexpensive (about 5 bucks). It is really nice to go in there on the first day it comes out and see all the wooden shelves filled with pannetone.

So, if I had to guess, I would say they might be ready this weekend. You were at the right place. I would follow up on that lead to Danilo. Most of the italian bakeries in the city just sell the boxed stuff from Italy. I wonder if Danilo bakes their own.

Just picked up the Cheeseboard fruitcake..a staple at our house each December. Let's remember (and sigh a sigh) for the St Honore Cake from Buon Gusto Bakery on Telegraph in Oakland(days gone by).

Lucca Ravioli on Valencia (at 22nd St) makes special holiday raviolis that are usually available the week before Christmas. You can call to see when they are selling them this year -- (415)647-5581.
