      <content>Dang,  I've always said one of the best things about the Japanese transportation system is that you are never more than three steps from a drink.

      <content>Amtrak is to JR as hamburger is to Kobe beef. Therefore, I'd recommend a beverage with high fructose corn syrup as opposed to sake when "enjoying" the American (unsubsidized) rail system.

      <content>Until very recently (less than 5 years), there used to be beer vending machines on the actual platform at Kannai Station in Yokohama. How many sad souls plugged in a few hundred Yen for one last swig for the ride home.?.?.?...</content>

      <content>It broke my heart when I heard they were tightening up on the beer/scotch machines.   Used to be you could grab a bento and a beer right on the platforms and be good for the ride.
 
What was even better was the various sizes available so you could really dial in the trip length/bladder capacity equation.
