Yucatan peninsula/Merida recommendations?

  • b

I'll be traveling to the Yucatan in July. Would love advice on great restaurants, everything from upscale to simple moles and stands. Whatever is good, local and authentic. I eat everything. Thanks!

  1. We had a very good seafood meal at Muelle 8, only open from noon to 6:00 pm. They were not inexpensive, and only do seafood, as I remember. 999-944-5343 is the number, they are in the suburbs, north side of town and worth seeking out.

If you are in Chichen Itza or plan to stay there, I recommend the restaurant in the Villas Arqeologicas hotel. It sounds unadventurous to eat at a hotel restaurant, but this place was exquisite. The turkey tamale wrapped in banana leaf was divine, as was the roasted pork in mole. Beautiful fresh fruits and fresh breads for breakfast.

We spent part of our honeymoon there, 24 years ago! I remember they had a delicious baked trout with LOTS of garlic.
