Can anyone suggest casual but decent places to eat in the above areas? Thanks in advance.

  1. It's been two years, but I'll give it a go:

Dingle: We ate at Chart House (Little Bit Upscale) Lord Baker's (Seafood)& Ashe's (Pub).

Chart House was very good with excellent service. It was my husband's favorite restaurant of the whole trip.

Lord Baker's was OK. Not very memorable.

Ashe's was lovely. Terrific seafood chowder and farmhouse cheese. Great Pub atmosphere.

I have heard fantastic things about Out of the Blue (Seafood) and Blue Zone (Gourmet Pizzas & such). Unfortunately, they were both closed (for unknown reasons)when we were there.

    Galway:

We ate at McDonagh's (sp?) - fish and chips - local college kids were lined up down the block. I loved it - My husaband thought it was a bit greasy.

We also enjoyed Moran's Oyster Cottage outside Galway in Clarinbridge.

    1. Out of the Blue in Dingle has extraordinary seafood. The owner's brother catches the fish and he doesn't open unless it meets his standards. The chef is from Brittany. The place looks like a little fast food shack until you get inside. Great wine list and you have to try the scallops in cognac. The Chart House was also good--have the lamb chops. We stayed on the other side of the Connor Pass--there's a fantastic artisanal cheesemaker in a little town on the road to Castlegregory. Look for the sign by the road.

don't even think of out of the blue overpriced poor food its become a victim of it's own success. chart house on the other hand is an excellent place great food and they really care. off the beaten track try clifftop house about 15km from dingle overlooking smerwick harbour. nothing sensational just really good food honestly cooked.
galway is a washout with the best of a bad lot being ard bia in quay street. their starters in particular are excellent with mains being a bit on the prententious side. good wine list try the house red liberalia terrific wine at the price.
