Paris and Lasserre
My wife and I will be with friends in Paris for her birthday next month. Our friends have booked reservations at Lasserre. Curious to know if anyone has had a recent meal there and what they thought of the experience.

My wife's favorite restaurant in Paris. Quite formal, so wear your best, coat & tie etc. The 75 euro luncheon prix-fixe is a great deal; otherwise plan on a minimum of 200E w/ wine & Kir Royale per person. Buy one of the minature pots w/ their logo as a cute remembrance.

And it is gorgeous and romantic. The food is very good, but not great. I think it is a wonderful place for a birthday or really any special day in Paris.

i have only been once, and it was for a friend's birthday, but i have often almost gone back; the staff is superb and the menu is delightful; maybe it is the juxtaposition of very mid-20th century formality (looking back to turn of the 19th/20th century decor) with a thoroughly modern menu, but still nicely grounded in the traditions of Escoffier; no, the food is not as shockingly good as at Arpege, but it still delicious, not heavy, and you leave with a big smile on your face. well chosen wine list.
