I haven't seen any recent postings and want some good selections of restaurants for Venice and Verona (I'm leaving in 3 weeks). Looking for moderate priced. Any hotel suggestions would be greatly appreciated too!

There have been multiple postings on Venice within the past month. If you take 5 or 10 minutes to scroll down, I am sure you will find a number of useful suggestions.

In Verona, try Osteria la Fontinina, which is across the Adige River going towards the Teatro Romano. Bottega del Vino is a very well known and traditional wine bar that also serves food.

I link below my report from last fall that includes 5 restaurants in Verona. We talk about our meals at Antico Tripoli and Al Pompiere all the time! Reservations highly recommended at both.

If you have a chance to get to Modena for lunch I cannot say enough about Hosteria Giusti. See my post "Chowfind in Modena" at http://www.chowhound.com/boards/intl/messages/43687.html.

For Venice, two of our favorites are Osteria Giorgione (calle de Proverbi, Canneregio, tel 041-5221752) and Vini da Gigio (Fondamenta San Felice, near Ca D'Oro in Canneregio, tel 041-5285140). Both are fairly simple, small and unpretentious with very good food.

You can also get great picnic stuff at Casa del Parmigiano near the Rialto Market (little piazza to the left after you come over the bridge) and the little produce stand in the same piazza (I bought from a bunch of stands on two extended visits and that one was the best).

In Castello on the far side of Piazza San Marco is Da Remigio which I really liked a few years ago and which my cousins loved last summer. Tel 041-5230089. Great people-watching. Corte Sconto nearby has been recommended often on this board -- mostly shellfish.

Across in Dorsoduro, right behind the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, is Ai Gondolieri, unusual in Venice for specialising in meat. We have always eaten well there over many years, during which time the place has gotten a bit more formal and pretentious but not so much so that it was a turn-off.

All of these places (and most of what you'll find in Venice) are pretty pricy.

Have a great trip!

Just saw that you were looking for hotel info too. In Venice, we stayed at Ca Gottardi in Cannaregio, very near Vini di Gigio. Very pleasant, amazing service, delicious capuccino at breakfast. Do not, however, eat at the restaurant right outside their front door -- we were warned.
