for a fast and relatively light meal also consider guzman y gomez - a mexican cantina.

On Erskineville rd just off king street is Delhi oh Delhi with former team from Oh! Calcutta!
Slightly more expensive for Indian food but worth the extra - the goat curry is a must try.

Cicciolina - the food is great and the restaurant is named after a woman who was known for flashing during political speeches. What's not to love about that?!

travel just a few blocks and go to Faheem's Fast Food in enmore. pakistani. try the haleem and biryani

also nearby in newtown is a vietnamese place called Thanh Binh with really great paper wraps and also had a sort of beef stew that escapes me.

for coffee dont miss compos also in the neighborhood. check out the double ristretto, its strong.

check out the food guide by the food people i think from some tv station in sydney (the name escapes me, something like sms, i dont think what im talking about is the good food guide by the smh). its great and is organized by neighborhood and cuisine. it never failed me for an interesting recommendation. ill get back to you on what its called exactly.

Do you mean the SBS Eating guide to Sydney? It is a good contrast to the SMH Good Food Guide, as it specialises more in "world" food. Does anyone know how up to date the SBS guide is? I know SMH is annual.

I had the last (10th edition) published in 2005. Don't know if there were any updates since.
