Toumenbou Ramen, Hiroshima (Japan, Day 4)

Having been in Japan for a few days, and had only one opportunity to eat ramen, it weighed heavily on my mind to have some soon. At this point I was staying in a neighborhood of Hiroshima called Yokogawa, a little ways northwest of the city center. Two ramen places were recommended to me. One called Gaba, which specializes in tonkotsu style ramen, and another placed called Toumenbou, which offers a wider variety of styles like shio, miso, and their spicy ramen. We decided to go for Toumenbou, since we wanted something lighter than tonkotsu. And, we were in need of some nourishment before spending an afternoon doing more errands, so something easy and quick was key.
We decided to get some basic ramen, so went with the miso and the shio ramen. Both were quite good. But we realized after ordering that we didn't quite order to the strengths of Toumenbou's menu. They're specialty is the spicy stuff like white sesame, and they have a wide selection of combinations with their shoyu ramen, which should have been an obvious clue. Nonetheless, what we had was quite good, and I'm guessing that if we made a better study of the menu, we would have stumbled upon more deliciousness. Upon further study, I realized that Toumenbou is a big national chain, but one with a lot of good press, kind of like Santouka. While I'm sure there are plenty of better ramen places with large concentrations like in Tokyo or Osaka, if you happen to find a Toumenbou in smaller cities, it's likely to be a solid choice.
