There are seven of us going to dinner at Le Grand Colbert. What I'm unable to find from their website are prices - and we'd like to know what we can expect. We love good wine, but given that we're in France and with the strength of the Euro against the dollar, we're not likely to go overboard (maybe cocktails in our apartment before). Thoughts on prices? Maybe pp?

Thanks.

Liz, is there a particular reason you want to go there? I had the only bad meal I have ever had in Paris there. Even so, it was not my choice, as I had heard AWFUL things about it, but my friends were insistent, because it looked so "cute" in the movie.

The decor is the only good thing about that place!

It's not so much the decor, but, rather, I have heard mixed reviews - some spectacular, some lousy like yours. I'm willing to take a chance - as I have heard that the seafood platter is wonderful. Being from Seattle, we get great fish, and have also enjoyed various selections in Brittany, Maine, and on St. Barth's, where Aquamarine flies mussels in from Brittany every Thursday - and you can buy freshly caught grouper and lobster from the fishermen roadside. That said, I'm trying to find out what to expect price-wise, as our adult kids (and there will be seven of us) want to take us there for our wedding anniversary dinner. Given that there are law school loans being paid off, other considerations, I just hope that they aren't going to be blind-sided by the prices. If they know what they're in for, they can plan for it.

being from Seattle, I'm SURE you'll be disappointed. There are SO many better places for fish in Paris. I would suggest La Cagouille.

But if you are bound and determined to have a lousy meal, go ahead. I have never heard of anyone who had a great meal there, either on this board, or anywhere else. "Merely okay," is the best I've ever heard.

La Cagouille is a fish and seafood restaurant. Here is a link to their web site: http://www.la-cagouille.fr/ There is a translator on the home page. They have a 42 euro three course menu that includes coffee and wine, and a 26 euro menu of two courses. Pretty reasonable for the extremely high quality of the product.

Chef Allemandou is a connoisseur of Cognac, and has an extensive selection he offers to his guests.

Dear Micki,
Yes, it was featured in the movie 'Something's gotta give' I'm going to Paris and I am wondering whether it is worth to trying food there. There are mixed reviews with some saying it is awful and others saying it is not bad. In Paris, I love le Cinq and Brasserie l'Ancien Trocodero. Jules Verne is terrible.

Sorry, did not realise we were back in 2005 on this post! Actually I also went to the Jules Verne inJanuary 2004 (took a family party there for my mother's 80's), and we had a very pleasant lunch whilst watching the Trocadero. OK it as not 3 Michelin Stars, but it was not that bad either even then!
