Burka in West Portal
Have passed by this new Middle Eastern restaurant in West Portal several times and been curious We finally went in tonight. Food was excellent:
Great baba ghanouj and hummus appetizers for $3.99 each.
No pita bread, but a tasty warm house-baked flat bread cooked like focaccia.
For main courses we had Shrimp Kebabs (generous portions interspersed with grilled lemons) and Meatball Kotke (sp?), which were fabulous grilled patties of spiced ground lamb and beef. Main courses came with a wonderful rice side, a small salad and some yoghurt. Prices range from $11.99 to about 14.99.
Only downside - they don't have their liquor license yet, but they encourage you to BYOB.
Give it a try.
Matt in the Sunset
We ate there, too, and enjoyed it. We had the assorted appetizer plate -- very nice with baba ghanouj, hummus, falafal, a delicious yogurt-feta spread, stuffed grape leaves and the excellent flat bread. My husband had the mixed kebab plate with lamb, chicken, and ground meat kebabs. They were excellent, particularly the chicken and ground meat. I had the lamb and eggplant kebabs -- these were less successfully prepared. The lamb was too well-done and the cut of meat wasn't very good and the eggplant was undercooked for my taste.
Service was very friendly. We will return.
