I will be in Rio in a few weeks and plan to take friends out to dinner while there. We've done the Porcao/Brazilian bbq thing and want something a little different. Expensive is okay as long as the meal is worth it. I should add that one of my friends doesn't eat Japanese and the other doesn't eat red meat.

It's been a while since I've been in Rio, but I really enjoyed the seafood at Satyricon. Based on reports from other posters who have been there more recently, it seems that it is still pretty good.

I second Satyricon, I am in Rio several times a year and this is always a must. Food is very good, service very good, atmosphere excellent and lots of beautiful and interesting people around.

Suggest booking a table.

Satyricon is ok, but it's never really excited me (I've been to the Ipanema branch twice and Buzios once). The dining highlight of my last Rio visit was Gero, in Ipanema close to Leblon. Outstanding Italian food, expensive by local standards but not outrageous, charming service. I think O Globo named it the best restaurant in Rio this year. I can't wait to go back.
