Erica,

Did you like Saint Jean de Luz. We are going this summer and the jazz festival in Marciac. Are there any other towns along the beach in that part of France or Spain you could recommend? Thanks for the help.

I did not visit other beach towns, as we stayed one day and one night in St. Jean before heading inland to the Basque town of St. Jean Pied de Port (recommended...you can go for the day with a car) and then north to Sarlat and the Dordogne. But I got a great feel for St. Jean de Luz....very few foreign tourists there and a relaxed feel without being chi-chi and resorty (a la Cote de Azur, for example). I think it would be good for a more extnded stay..the beach is wide and clean. We were there in May and it was not beach weather so I have no idea of how crowded it would be later on. One area I am more familiar with is the coast of Asturias in Spain but that is quite far from there..I will post details if you want them. In St. Jean we stayed on the beach at Hotel de la Plage......clean and spare rooms with small terrace (some rooms). I think it was about $100 Us for terrace double room..one of the more reasonable options in town.
