We will be in Santiago and La Serena for the month of February and are looking for places that serve excellent good value seafood. Would also be interested in hearing about places in Valparaiso, Vina del Mar and within a couple of hours of Santiago.

In La Serena, there is a Lebanese/Chilean restaurant that was quite good, it's on one of the main streets in the center of town, but I forget the name of the place.

Check out other Chile posts, I included a link to one of mine below....

Also, in general, when in Santiago and La Serena, the central markets often have great deals and excellent seafood. In Valparaiso, head to Caleta Membrillo or the other caleta, i forget the name. These are cluters of restaurants on the shore that have great, cheap seafood.

In Valparaiso, Cafe Turri, on top of Cerro Concepcion, has great seafood in a more elegant (but still quite affordable) setting. Get a table with a view over the entire harbor. The corvina with garlic and red pepper sauce is amazing.

Feel free to email me if you have specific questions...

Valpo is a great city to explore on foot as long as you don't go to far up into the hills (they can be a bit dangerous) but I loved just sitting in different cafes and snuggling into a good book and a cup of espresso. It is such a creative and wonderful city to explore - you will find great places to eat up on top of the hills and by the shore at the various fish markets. Also, Cafe Turri is a great spot, with a great view, and great food.
