truly tasty tandoor in/near central london?
fish n chips that DOESN't use peanut oil(ALLERGY) and cooks FRESH fish
is bloom's in golders green, still there? and if yes, is it any good still?
i am dating myself with this one-calvin trillin has had several sublime chinese restaurants he recommended in london-and i have tried them, years ago-but what's current , ie not trendy-but out of the ordinary and worth the detour? I prefer nothing exotic, yet still different than the run of the mill......
thanks chow hounders....and happy new year!

not sure I understood all your posting - found grammar a tad confusing.
Great fish & chips can be found at the Golden Hinde on Marylebone Lane - I've got no idea what oil they use. If you're in North London try Nautilus on West End Lane (ditto on oil).

Bloom's is very much there but I don't think it's ever been called good. It is heimshe and unlike food you can get elsewhere. If you're after kosher food that whole strip is good, especially so is Dizengoff's.

There are excellent Indian's on Drummond Street, or try Parsee in Highgate for something totally new

When I first moved to the UK last April, we stayed for a month not far from Golder's Green. I wouldn't bother with Bloom's - especially if you're from NY. There is a good bakery right there but it's not worth a trek from central London. I ditto the Golden Hinde suggestion.

I think Le Cinnamon in Hammersmith serves the best Indian food I've had in London. It is on Shepherd's Bush Road.

Also if you've never been to a Nobu the one in Mayfair is very good (although very expensive).

Seashell Fish Restaurant in Marylebone has a very good reputation for fish and chips. But I think of fish and chips as take away fast food and certainly not worth paying a premium for (especially once you drown it in malt vinegar and salt). The anonymous corner shop from where I'm staying will do cod and chips wrapped up for 2 pounds and I think it's great.

If you want to try some really traditional London food you could go for one of the pie and mash shops in the East End. These places are pretty similar and usually serve some combination of jellied eels, meat pies, and mash (mashed potatoes), all covered in "liquor" (parsley gravy). I went to a place in Camden about a year ago, mostly out of curiosity. I had eel and mash which I thought was okay but I enjoyed the overall experience.
