New Tayyeb. Not only it is inexpensive, it's some of the best food I've ever had in London. Casual, and a lot of fun, too. BYO.

I've always like Wagamama.

It's a chain restaurant found in several spots around the city, but it offers decent food at decent prices.

Cafeteria style seating, but made to order Japanese style meals.

You can check out their website at www.wagamama.com

I also recommend Tiffin (Indian) with one reservation.

Address is:165 Cannon Street, London, E1 2LX. Nearest tube station is:Shadwell.

The downside is the fact that it's in a (very) dodgy part of town....but the food is beyond excellent.

We had a very pleasant meal at Moti Mahal 3 Glendower St. It is just off Old Brompton Rd. not far from the S. Ken. tube. Very inexpensive and satisfying. I don't know if it was because it was early spring and not tourist time but it was closed on Mondays.

Hope this isn't too late but there is an excellent guide you can pick up in any London bookstore called Good Cheap Eats in London (publ. Harden's) for 7 quid. It tells you how to (just about) get away with J Sheekey for 20 pounds. I also love the lunch buffet at Chutneys near London University for 5 quid (nearest tube Euston Sq) - not to be confused with Chutney Mary. There's also the institution that is Wong Kei in Leicester Sq. for fried noodles or duck/ char siu noodle soup. The abuse is free of charge.
