My favorite cold weather soup is the Yuk-ke-Jang, spicy beef soup, served in most Korean restaurants. Make it extra spicy and it'll be sure to warm you up.

This is one of the most common and popular Korean food dishes. It's made from base of beef stock, made spicy with red hot pepper flakes, then add shredded beef, mung bean noodles, bean sprouts, green onions, and a whipped egg.

The rice is served on the side, and you eat it by dumping the rice inside the soup. If it's made spicy enough, it'll usually have your nose running toward the end.

I particularly enjoyed the soup of the day (old fire soup, meaning it was cooked throughout the day) at ABC in Foster City (Cantonese food). I forgot which day of the week they serve this but I once had a very nice cuttlefish and chinese melon (not the fruit) soup. It is $10 a pot and expect to share it with at least 2 to 3 other people.

How about a nice delicious Borscht soup? Its really nice in the winter time with a lovely dark dill/rye bread.

Katia's in the richmond has a nice borscht. Its really simple to make though. I LOVE soup. My mom is quite the cook and always makes the BEST soups. So I'm really spoiled. Whenever it gets cold out, I whip out the soup pot. We've been living on soup after soup for the last 2 weeks. This week I am making a cauliflower soup, then will make a borscht. I can't wait for dinner time.
