My in-laws have a reservation at Gordon Ramsay next month, and my mother-in-law is already stressing about appropriate attire. She wants to know if slacks are appropriate, or whether she needs to be better dressed. I assume a jacket and tie is appropriate for men.

We were ther in June. My husband and 2 teenage boys did wear jackets and ties but there were many there with just jackets and even one man with neither a jacket or tie. Everyone did stare at him. I did wear pants and a sweater an I was appropriately dressed.Your MIl will be fine in slacks. BTW, the food was wonderful.

Slacks are appropriate, although I would not recommend "khaki"-type slacks (not even at lunch). If it's black slacks coupled with nice shoes, and a nice top (whether a little camel colored twin-set, or a nice silk type top), it would be fine. Note the not irrelevant role of nice shoes and a nice bag.

I've worn slacks to GR RHR many times, including (1) black pant suit, with my hair up in a "swish" style, LV epi clutch and black mules, and (2) a white Spanish style, large-cuffed white cotton whimsical blouse. Note that something simpler would work fine as well, for your mom's top. There's obviously no need to worry. I feel like anything I have worn has been more than adequate. :)

Clothing attire .. in all my years of dining in top restaurants, it is sad to still see the need for 'jacket @ tie' .. wearing a clean pair of smart trousers (usually dark) and a stylish shirt, I have only been asked to wear a jacket or tie twice. First was the Ritz in London and second was the Hotel Royal at Evian. Restaurants requiring shirt and tie for gents dont gain any access to my patronage !

Any trousers for men and a clean, pressed shirt are fine, no need for jacket or tie - as for ladies, trousers and a blouse, are good too, my husband and I have never gotten "stared" at...
