Was in NZ this time last year. Icon in Wellington was fantastic - great seafood and views.

The viaduct in Auckland will be buzzing right now with the America's cup. My favourites in Auckland are Cibo in Parnell for consistently good food and unpretentious atmosphere, Rocco on Ponsonby Road for modern Spanish cuisine and fab decor and Food Alley on Albert Street in the city for its great stalls selling cheap, tasty Asian dishes. The Thai noodles are particularly outstanding!

I'm sorry I'm late on this, but we just got back from Auckland Sunday night late.
For cheap and good we ate several times at Kebobs on Queen (the "lamb works") on the bottom block of Queen St. Nol Bu Ne, a Korean restaurant further up Queen St. (by Real Groovy Records) was very good and inexpensive. We also liked Musical Knives, a vegetarian/healthfood/gourmet on Ponsonby Rd., a bit more expensive. We were recommended to try Empress Garden (we saw it from the window of the bus to Westmere and jumped out to eat there)-- It was VERY good Chinese. For fancy, we ate at Hotel Esplanade in Devonport -- very nice -- try to get a table with a view.
Food Alley -- we ate at Malayasian Kitchen -- good and the fried rice was VERY good. It's on Albert St, bottom block I think.
The restaurant at the Seamart has changed its name and is only open for dinner -- we didn't get there, but we went to the one around the other side of the building for lunch -fish and chips; good but overpriced.
Generally, the service in New Zealand is lackadaisical. The only place we got really good service was at Musical Knives.
