I also recomend Marie-Anne Cantin and Barthelemy. I preferred Marie-Anne's shop because of her friendly advice and great personality. If you are unsure of your selection put yourself in her hands; tell her what you are looking for and your likes and dislikes. You will not be disappointed. Make sure that you tell her you sought out her shop, as opposed to just walking in unaware of it's greatness. She breaks into a huge smile and seems touched that you looked for her shop.

Cheers,

I don't know Cantin (though a visit to the web site has convinced me to go QUICKLY!) -- but I've always had great experiences and great cheese at Barthelemy. The Barthelemy family, like Mme Cantin, age their cheeses themselves, which makes a huge difference. If by any chance you're looking for the best fondue of your life, they will put together a marvelous selection of Alpine cheeses, each designed to contribute a special note to the finished product.

In Lyon, one address NOT TO MISS: La Mere Richard's stall at Les Halles (the city's covered market). She specializes in the production and affinage of St-Marcellin, which is the Ferrari, the Dom Perignon, the Hermes, the Pete Sampras :+) of Lyonnais cheeses. Unbelievable. And the St-Felicien ain't bad, either.
