Speaking of barbecue, how are 'hounds feeling about Rob's Rib Shack these days?

It gets mentioned regularly but with few details. I haven't been for ages and may be helping a friend put on a party there. We might take Jackie's suggestion to hit a few balls at the driving range afterwards. I notice that the menu mentions fried chicken as a special on Saturdays - anyone tried it?

We typically take out once a summer from Rob's. Only because it is the only barbecue around, in Sonoma. It's passable. Never tried the fried chicken, but I've posted before about the bins of fried-chicken-to-go at the Sonoma and Glen Ellen Markets, both short distances from Rob's. It's the best I've had in the Bay Area. If Rob's special leaves you hankering for great fried chicken, make a pit stop.

I think this is the first non-beef thing you've mentioned eating, rich! So, you enjoy other forms of protein as well? (g)

melanie---i don't know what's gotten into me lately---i actually ordered a grilled salmon at fume bistro the other night (another place you should try up here). believe me, i envy you guys that can eat whatever you wish. rich

Salmon?!? Well, it's almost the end of the season, gotta enjoy it now. I just looked at the website for Fume Bistro...have you had the Snake River kobe tri-tip? Anything else to recommend?

melanie---i have had the tri tip---a little too lean for my taste, but very flavorful. i've enjoyed the mussells, oysters, scallops, as well as the caesars salad. their wine list is interesting and fairly priced. the manager justin, and bar manager tony are from celedon and coles---i can vouch for the service. they have a happy hour from 4:30 until 6 during the week with free appetizers and 2 dollar well drinks. you almost can't afford not to drink. i think you'd enjoy the place. by the way, they will be serving at "the taste for knowledge" wine tasting event november 1st. rich

Thanks for the details, rich. It's a little far for me for lunch, but the happy hour would be the ticket to drag my colleagues up there for an early evening. I'm still meaning to try the hh at Zinsvalley some day too. Do you remember which days they're open?

Thanks for the info. That takes less planning.

In case you missed it, I posted on Napa's Adobe House. Please add your comments to that thread, if you've tried it.

I tried to pick up some Sonoma Market fried chicken this week, but got there too late and everything had been put away. Have definitely filed it away as a must try.

      3. FYI -

Alas, Rob's Rib Shack is no more - closed down a couple of months ago, as the owner is spending all of his time at his relatively new Bistro in Sonoma - La Poste.
