At Fish - a Boisonnerie the waitress suggested a glass of white wine to go with my mussels. It was fantastic. It cost 6Euro for the glass, she apologized that it was the most expensive. I was sleep deprived and overly excited and pretty ignorant of wines anyway. It seems that there was a "C" involved, maybe something like Cassay?

Sorry to ask such a ridiculous question, but does anyone have any ideas what it might have been?

Typical white wine choices with fish are Sancerre or Muscadet. Of course, REAL Chablis would have been good.

While I ate at the restaurant 5/19, I can't help you from that experience but, what I do know, is the owner of Fish also owns the wine shop out the door to the left and around two corners to the right "La Derniere (accent on the 2nd e) Goutte" 6 rue de Bourbon la Chateau. They sell in bottles what is served in the restaurant in by the glass. It appears from my information that the email address for this wine shop is goutte@club-internet.fr . You might try addressing your question to them, however, I, too, put my trust in Melanie's judgement.

I suspect that not many white Cassis are imported to the US. One that should be available in several states is Clos St. Magdelaine, imported by Kermit Lynch of Berkeley, CA, that your retailer should be able to track down.

In a very beautiful town called Cassis on the Mediterranean coast very near Marseilles the locals make white, rosé and red wines called Cassis, that are very much favored to swill with the catch of the day. These wines are also very popular in the great Bourride/Bouillabaise restaurants of Marseille. If it was white wine that you had, it is most likely from a blend of bouboulenc, ugnin balnc and marsanne grapes, although one can find wines purely from marsanne. Kermit Lynch in Berkeley CA imports a wine called Clos Magdalene (in legend, this is the place that Mary Magdalene landed when bringing the Holy Grail to france). It is in fairly wide distribution in the US. Other good producers are Eric Texier and Domaine des Roches Blanches.

Could the wine have been Quincy? It has the "C" sound and is a good accompaniment to fish and seafood. Am living in Paris actually right now and have been to Fish (was unfortunately disappointed since had come for brunch and been assured that they would still have their Sunday specials by the time we got there (only 1/2 hour later), however it was not the case.) Might in fact walk home via Fish and check out the menu.
